BENT & CO. / FIELD GUIDE

From wire to everything.

Your factory runs on the original Universal Paperclips rules. The machines, workers and customers make that progress visible.

01 · Make, sell, reinvest

Press Space or the BEND button to make a clip. Making clips consumes wire. Buy another spool at the wire depot when it runs low.

Clips in stock are waiting to sell. Sales happen automatically, so stock can fall while your till rises—even when production has stopped. The smaller number underneath is everything you have ever made.

Use − / + at the shop counter to set the price. Lower prices increase demand; marketing helps attract more demand. The customer queue is visual and never delays or changes sales.

02 · Helpers and merged crews

Hire at the yellow noticeboard. Helpers are the original game's AutoClippers: they keep producing while wire is available.

Ten helpers combine into one 10× cell; ten such crews become a 100× cell. The badge tells you how many AutoClippers that operator represents. Consolidation clears extra bays; it adds no bonus and loses no production. Research upgrades still apply normally.

For example, 54 helpers appear as five 10× cells and four individual cells.

03 · Ideas and the computer room

Production milestones unlock computing and research. Processors generate operations. Each unit of memory holds 1,000 operations. Spend available trust on either using the computer's controls.

Research on the ideas bench consumes its listed resources. After creativity is unlocked, processors generate it when operations reach memory capacity. RevTracker adds average revenue per second beneath the till.

Later research opens investment, quantum computing and strategy tournaments. Their controls and prerequisites follow the original game.

04 · Beyond the storefront

The industrial phase uses clips to build factories, harvesting and wire drones, solar farms and power storage. Material, wire and power must support production. Swarm gifts replace trust as the resource for new processors and memory.

In space, probes explore, replicate, produce and fight. Allocate probe trust between speed, exploration, replication, hazard protection, factories, harvesters, wire and combat. Research, honor and yomi unlock further progress. Both original ending choices remain available.

05 · Moving around and saving

Click any visible button to act immediately: price + / −, hiring, wire and the bending press work from the floor view. Click a station’s sign or background only when you want a closer look. Hovering highlights its footprint. The camera keeps a steady working distance as your factory grows. Buttons stay on the actual machine, board or counter. Hover details appear along the bottom, away from the factory.

Drag or use W A S D / arrow keys to move across the floor. Right-drag to orbit and scroll to zoom. Hold Shift to move faster. M or the map icon opens a bird’s-eye view: click any building to visit it. Esc takes you back to your previous view; Home returns to the storefront. Controls also support Tab and Enter.

Bent & Co.

A playful 3D workshop built around Universal Paperclips, the game by Frank Lantz / Everybody House Games. Original combat programming by Bennett Foddy.

A continuous 3D world follows the business, planetary, and space stages through both original endings. Helpers represent AutoClippers. The original simulation handles all production, costs, unlocks, and saves.

3D machinery: custom geometry and animation · Three.js (MIT). Animated crew, spacecraft, and industrial assets: Kenney (CC0). Sound effects: Kenney Impact, Interface, and Sci-Fi Sounds (CC0), edited and mixed for this workshop. Studio lighting: Sergej Majboroda / Poly Haven (CC0). Manrope: SIL Open Font License.
